Staten Island Respite
School Holiday Respite
Staten Island’s School Holiday Respite program takes fun to a whole new level. Participants with Asperger’s Disorder meet new friends and experience a variety of recreational venues, which are chosen by the group. Appropriate socialization skills and proper peer relationships are encouraged with opportunities for developing lasting friendships. A speech therapist will be on hand to assist with positive pragmatic conversations. This is a wonderful opportunity for caregivers to enjoy their own time knowing that their child is engaged in safe fun activities.
Participants need to be 14 years old and can attend until they graduate from high school. The respite meets during the winter and spring breaks at a central location in Staten Island and travel by school bus throughout the five boroughs and New Jersey
Staten Island Weekend Respite program was created at the request of the former participants of the School Holiday Respite, who wanted to continue seeing their friends and exploring new places of interest. It meets one Saturday per month for 12 months. Participants are with Asperger’s Disorder and have graduated high school to 25 years of age.
