Perspectives—A Conversation with Fran Prezant

“Historically, a lot of the medical literature years ago would say, if you are parents of a kid with a disability, you’re doomed. We interviewed hundreds of families, and what we found was incredible resilience among couples.”

— Fran Prezant

Our series of conversations with those committed to improving access for people with disabilities continues with author and advocate Fran Prezant.  We spoke at length with Fran about the innovative programs she has founded as Director of Research and Evaluation at Abilities!, including “Access to Jazz for Children with Physical Disabilities,” and about her extensive writing on family and parenting. Her latest book, Married with Special Needs Children, was named one of the 2007 “Ten Best Books for Parents” by Exceptional Parents Magazine. Welcoming People with Alzheimer’s Disease

MACThis spring The Museum of Modern Art and the Museum Access Consortium co-hosted Welcoming People with Alzheimer’s Disease, a discussion about developing programs to serve visitors with Alzheimer’s disease. Panelists included: Diana Holbrook, caregiver; Jed Levine, Executive Vice President, Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter; Jennifer Kalter, American Folk Art Museum; Rebecca McGinnis, The Metropolitan Museum of Art; and Amir Parsa from The Museum of Modern Art.

The event was well received by a diverse audience that included family members, museum educators and Alzheimer’s advocates. If you missed the presentation, or want to revisit the discussion, please click here to view the video of Welcoming People with Alzheimer’s Disease.
