Fall Family Day at Queens Botanical Garden Moon Festival

Mother and daughter mix a bucket of soil, hand over hand. A very young gardener picks at his succulent plant. Two young gardeners begin making their desert dish gardens. Mother and daughter watch others prepare soil for their dish gardens. Today’s theme: How do we make a model of a desert environment?
Two young gardeners smile. Mother and son share a hug. A young gardener in pink smiles. In the herb garden, two moms sniff some tarragon. A young girl stops to smell a pink rose during the Scavenger Hunt.
Mother and son prepare a dish garden. A young Family Day participant and Garden educator make a dish garden. Four smiling girls wave flags at the Moon Festival Parade. On the Scavenger Hunt, a family identifies a hard-to-find tree. On the Garden pavilion, a musician bows a traditional Chinese instrument, the Erhu.
A fifteen-foot long yellow dragon, worn by dancers, parades through the crowd. Three stories high, a red and yellow, hot air balloon is inflated for passengers. A group of Chinese musicians play in a circle on the pavilion lawn. In the dark, a dancer flourishes his sword, illuminated by the flashes of cameras. At sunset, a man in a twelve-foot high dragon costume beats his wings.
